The Bulk Materials Handling Technology Conference is jointly organized by the Technical University of Munich (Chair of Materials Handling, Material Flow, Logistics; Prof. Dr.-Ing. Fottner) and the Otto von Guericke University Magdeburg (ILM; Chair of Materials Handling and Material Flow Technology; Univ.-Prof. Dr.-Ing. Katterfeld) and takes place alternately every year in Garching and Magdeburg.
Founded 25 years ago by Prof.-Dr.-Ing. F. Krause, this event quickly established itself as a renowned specialist conference and has long been one of the most important conferences in the bulk solids industry in Germany.
It always enjoys lively participation from scientists, plant manufacturers and operators and thus enables an intensive and effective exchange of knowledge and experience.
Yevgeniy Chumachenko, M. Sc, from our research and development department, drew attention to the need for permanent condition monitoring of conveyor systems as part of his presentation "Smart monitoring in use: LoRaWAN™-based sensor network for permanent monitoring of conveyor systems" and presented the KÜPPER Sensing Idler monitoring system that has been developed.
Excerpt from the presentation:
"Bearing damage and subsequent heating of idlers can cause a fire in a conveyor system. In order to warn system operators of idler failure at an early stage, Artur Küpper GmbH & Co. KG (AKT) has developed an intelligent and flexible monitoring system in collaboration with the Institute for Logistics and Material Flow Technology (ILM) at Otto von Guericke University Magdeburg (OVGU).
A LoRaWAN™-based network of sensors is a key component of this continuous and fully automated IIoT monitoring system, which prevents unplanned line downtimes and increases productivity and therefore profitability."
