From March 2023, Bottrop will welcome its new inhabitants, the Buckfast bee.
This is a subspecies of the European honey bee (lat. Apis Melifera).
We will have 2 bee colonies, which can produce 60-80 kg of honey if the season goes well. They will be looked after by a beekeeper.
We set up the ideal habitat for our bees back in 2022. A wildflower meadow was created on the lawn behind our administration building, which consists of a mixture of insect-friendly flowers.
In addition, various fruit trees were planted, including apple, pear, plum and cherry trees. In total, there are 10 fruit trees in our bee meadow. It will probably be 2027 before we can harvest the first fruit there.
